Technology is everywhere we look. It seems almost in every walk of life and of course, technology is increasing and becoming more advanced every day. This advancement has many advantages, such as the ability to communicate and interact with others around the globe. But technology also has some disadvantages, such as loss of privacy, decreased productivity, and many other things. As technology continues to develop, these disadvantages will become less of an issue.Mobile phones, computers, and many other modern technology marvels are now commonly being used at the classroom. However, there is no denying that they're incredibly helpful, but sometimes in some rather disturbing ways as well. Luckily, modern technology is largely seen as a benefit to students. Instead of using large desks, laptops can be placed easily on individual chairs, footrests, or any surface available. Having this technology allows students to go faster, learn easier, and stay ahead of their peers.
The use of
technology in schools is often encouraged by parents and even by
administrators. They see technology as a way to help students succeed in school
without necessarily having to do the hard work. In reality, using digital
devices to perform such tasks as taking tests or working on projects can
greatly diminish the amount of effort required. While using a computer can help
many students to perform homework and coursework much more quickly and easier,
when projects or exams arrive later, many students still find themselves dazed
and confused. Modern technology, instead of providing a boost of energy and
confidence, can cause students to become dazed and confused.
A common
example of this is using digital technology in the classroom. Many students
love the ability to use cell phones or pdas to perform classwork while away
from home, but there are many risks involved with this type of technology.
Students must be aware of the potential damage that can be caused by these
devices and must be responsible about how they use them. Also, most cell phones
and pdas have in-built software that encourages students to perform unsafe
activities. So, while using digital technology may provide a means to stay connected
at home, it can also encourage poor behavior and give students a reason to
break the rules.
In addition
to the dangers associated with using digital devices that can potentially harm
students, there are some inherent disadvantages to using modern technology in
the workplace. Using computers in this environment creates a new set of
problems in that many employees are now expected to be computer savvy. This
includes not only new computer technology, but also changes in teaching methods
as well. The teaching methods associated with the use of computers and
technology has resulted in a variety of different teaching methods.
In many
cases, the technology makes it difficult for teachers to keep up with the pace
of today's students. Teachers must now find ways to incorporate technology into
the classroom without sacrificing the quality of instruction. Many have been
successful in adapting their teaching methods so that they can more easily
teach the material using technology, yet still retain their students' attention
and respect for the material. One method that has been especially successful is
video instruction. Using a computer to display lectures, and then linking it to
a monitor, a teacher can show slides or demonstrations of the material without
having to actually touch the technology. This allows the teacher to move
seamlessly between lecture and video and still get the most out of the
technology.
Another
drawback that teachers must address when using technology is the lack of
interaction that many students experience with technology. The Internet and the
ease of email and texting have resulted in many students losing the ability to
build a real conversation with another person. Online technology has also made
it difficult for students to work on projects together. This is accomplished by
using digital technology to make the project accessible online, without any
human interaction. However, the lack of interaction can make projects more
difficult to complete.
